NASA Space Apps Hackathon 2025 (Kamloops Event) - Best Storyteller Award

October 4-5, 2025 - Kamloops, BC

The team created Pour Decisions, merging two datasets to train a machine learning model.
They trained and saved the model as a .pkl file.
The team built a website featuring an interactive map and chatbot.
They delivered a lighthearted presentation that impressed the judges and earned the award.

Kamloops 2025 Hackathon - First Place

September 19-21, 2025 - Kamloops, BC

The team developed OneShot.pro, an AI-powered archery training system for real-time form analysis.
They integrated dual cameras and biosensors to provide instant coach feedback.
The team presented a live demo and compelling business pitch that secured the win.

International Conference on Advancement in Healthcare Technology and Biomedical Engineering (AHTBE'25) - Best Paper Award

August 30-31, 2025 - Vancouver, BC

The team authored an award-winning research paper on a multi-modal IoT-driven assistive patient monitoring system for enhanced wheelchair accessibility.
They presented their findings to an international audience of healthcare technology and biomedical engineering experts.
The team collaborated to design the methodology, analyze results, and validate their conclusions.

Kamloops 2025 Wolves’ Den- First Place and Audience Award

April 28, 2025 - Kamloops, BC

The team pitched “We’ll Assist,” an AI-powered wheelchair assistant.
They won $12,500 in prizes — $10,000 for first place and $2,500 for the audience award.
The team developed a real-time wheelchair monitoring system integrated with cloud analytics.
They collaborated under tight deadlines to deliver a fully functional prototype and web platform.

Dr. Yasin Mamatjan

In the last 7 years, he has:

authored 34 journal publications, and over 82 conference posters/papers (16 as the first or co-first author), while I was the contributor for methylation analysis in 6 Nature papers.

developed ~20 ML models and genomics pipeline for clinical research laboratories.

trained three BSc students and obtained five grants in 2022 alone in the field of cancer classification and recommender systems for brain stroke risk and heart attack risk stratification.

contributed to equity, diversity, and inclusion by employing underrepresented students and engaging in high school outreach activities.

supported University Health Network (UHN) in maintaining and fostering a culture of research excellence and continue to collaborate with them.

developed predictor of meningioma recurrence used in the hospital for clinical test and published in Neuro-Oncology in 2019, which also led to a conference award and a “Moonshot Grant” from the US.

obtained research experiences at Philips Research Lab in Germany, Translational Genomics Laboratory (TGL) at OICR and Advanced Genomics Lab in UHN.

established collaborations with 20 research groups in five countries.
